There are a number of ways to disconnect the Internet. The simplest way to disconnect your Internet access without having to unplug or disconnect your modem, is to click on the Start button in Windows, and select the Control Panel icon. From the Control Panel, double-click on Network Connections. Select your Local Area Connection (if you have more than one Local Area Connection listed, choose the one that says Connected underneath the Status heading), then right-click with your mouse and choose Disable. . This will disconnect your Internet connection, and your connection may be easily restored later by following the same steps and choosing Enable from the menu options.
To disconnect the Internet using your computer's hardware components, you may unplug your computer's ethernet cable, which is most often found on the back panel of your computer case. You can also unplug the power cord from your modem, or you can simply unplug the modem directly from the wall socket or power strip.
If you prefer to disconnect your Internet service completely, you'll need to contact your Internet service provider directly, and they can either disable your Internet services, or they can transfer them to a new location if you are relocating, and if they provide service in your new area.
