How To Market Your Business or Product Online

Added 18 of February 2009 (540 views)

If your business is offering a product or service, there are many tools available for you to market your product online. Every day, there are millions of people around the world that connect to the Internet in search of a product or service that they need. This gives you the chance to advertise your business to an ever growing base of customers.

When making a decision as to how you will advertise your business online, you first need to determine what your target market is. What demographics of customers would use what you provide, and where would they be located? The latter is especially important if you are a local business, such as a moving or cleaning company, and only provide services in certain areas.

Once your website is set up, you would need to attract visitors to it, and turn those visitors into clients. Remember that even the most beautifully designed and functional site would not be of any use to you if nobody ever visits it. In order to get visitors to your site, there are many options available online, some of which are free and some require you to spend some money in order to pay for ads.

One of the best free ways to attract visitors is by making posts in free classifieds sites, such as CraigsList and US Free Ads. Those are the most popular, however there are dozens of other classifieds sites which allow you to post ads without paying anything. The advantage of this method is that it allows you to clearly describe the products or services that your business is providing, as well as letting you give potential clients many different ways to contact you, such as by visiting your website, sending you email or calling you.

If you want to deliver high quality targeted visitors to your website, there are also some online advertising networks that can drive traffic to your website. They also let you target your visitors very narrowly, such as only getting clicks from people in a certain city or even in a certain ZIP code.

One of the most popular option is Pay-Per-Click ads, such as Google Adwords, Microsoft Adcenter and Yahoo Search Marketing. Those companies let you write a short ad, similar to one you would find in a classifieds ad in a newspaper, and then display it next to the search results of their search engines when people search for keywords that are related to your site. They can also place your ad on other websites that have relevant content, for example if you are involved in selling insurance, your ad can be placed on a website that deals with insurance products.

There are also some smaller networks, such as Adbrite, which let you purchase a text ad or a banner spot on a selected website, and you can pay either for the amount of clicks your ad gets, the amount of views, or you can also purchase an ad spot for a specific rate for a duration of time, such as a day, week or month.
